Last weekend we were part of an event that saw a piece of local history brought back to life, this occasion was shared with delicious food, great company and a sense of community between everyone involved. The event was held at the Toftmoks Windmill on 9th May, where friends, supporters and local visitors gathered to celebrate the renovation of the historic windmill on National Windmill Day.
Set in the scenic countryside near Haddiscoe, the restored windmill became a beautiful backdrop for an afternoon of celebration. After all the hard work that had gone into preserving the landmark, the event wasn’t just about showing off the finished renovation. The hosts wanted to ensure the day was about thanking the people who helped make it happen, which gave everyone a chance to come together and enjoy the moment.
With 50 guests attending, our catering managers Paul and Ria ensured the food felt relaxed, comforting and generous, our aim was to provide the kind of meal that got people chatting, laughing and going back for seconds. Of course, our Hog Roast Haddiscoe team delivered exactly that. Before guests arrived, our staff were hard at work on site, slowly cooking the main event of the menu, a whole roasted pig, which became the talking point of the afternoon. Served with crispy crackling, sage and onion stuffing and sweet apple sauce, the pork was piled into fresh bread rolls and wraps, creating the kind of hearty meal people were eager to tuck into. There’s something about a hog roast that instantly makes an event feel warm and welcoming, and this celebration was no exception.
Alongside the main feast, guests could help themselves to fresh mixed salad and creamy gourmet coleslaw, while vegetarian and vegan visitors could enjoy grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers served with wraps, fresh tzatziki dip and a sweet chilli sauce full of flavour. This meant no guest was left out and every person had something delicious to enjoy. Even the presentation suited the occasion perfectly, with wooden disposable crockery and cutlery adding a rustic touch that fit in perfectly with the countryside setting and historic atmosphere.
What made this event so memorable wasn’t just the food, it was the people involved. Celebrating a restored windmill on National Windmill Day brought everyone together through shared interest, conversation and community spirit. Events like this remind us of why we love doing what we do and we were honoured to allow everyone involved to slow down, celebrate their achievements and enjoy time with those important to them.
